In Memory Of PETER WANG

Peter Wang (Mandarin Chinese: 王孟杰; November 9, 2002 – February 14, 2018) tragically lost his life during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2018.

In his final moments, Peter was seen performing a seemingly small yet profoundly courageous act: he held a door open for his classmates while wearing his JROTC uniform. This act of bravery, allowing others to flee to safety ahead of himself amidst the chaos, ultimately cost him his life as he was shot multiple times. At just 15 years old, Peter demonstrated an extraordinary selflessness, prioritizing the lives of others above his own.

For his bravery, Peter was honored with the highest recognition from the United States Department of the Army—the ROTC Medal for Heroism.

Moreover, his exceptional courage and sacrifice were recognized with a posthumous acceptance to West Point, an honor reflecting the depth of his heroism.

Additionally, Peter Wang was honored as a 2019 Young Hero Honoree by Congressional Medal of Honor Society for his courageous actions which ultimately led to his untimely death while he was attempting to aid his classmates' escape. His peers attribute the saving of several lives to Peter’s quick thinking and bravery.

Peter’s remarkable heroism not only brought honor to himself, his family, and the community but also left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire the people of Florida and beyond.
